So besides the occasional Northface puffer vest I never wear down jackets, I am just not that into them. Winter dressing is all about layers… and I mean layers upon layers. I am talking about tank under thermal, under thin sweater, under chunky cardigan, under jacket, under larger jacket if needed and then all covered by a huge scarf or cape. But last winter was terrible and with this whole climate change issue I am guessing every winter will be terrible for now on. So I have been thinking seriously about bringing a down jacket into the equation but I can not wear just any down jacket. I have a strong aversion to uniforms, so that is probably why I hate the black sleeping bag look every New Yorker wears when winter comes.

So let’s take a look again at the Fall 2014 runways and online stores to see the puffer styles we should all experiment with this winter.

THE PUFFER TRENCH

Max Mara, Thakoon, Max Mara, Iceberg, Kenzo

So we all know the Tomboy loves trench coat so why not a quilted trench. The Max Mara and Thakoon versions  are dope because the use wool menswear fabrics and plaid, which give a more put together look. The Kenzo and Iceberg quilted longline coats have a much thinner quilting pattern, which gives a slimmer look to the typical sleeping bag style. Love these!

Here is a dope version for sale:

Sacai // $1,825

THE NOVELTY CROP PUFFER

Topshop Unique, Topshop Unique, Christopher Kane, Tess Giberson, Tess Giberson

So not the most functional, My mom is very adamant that winter coat should come below your hips…but layered right these styles could be a great puffer alternative.
