Ok, I can’t lie, I have not seen the Hunger Games. But one does not have to be a fan of the movies to be a fan of the young lady who played Rue. Amandla Stenberg is not only a rising star in Hollywood, she is also a young lady wise beyond her years. The 16 year old was part of a video project she and another student created for history class that talks about topics within black culture, such as hairstyles and hip-hop music, and how mainstream pop culture has snatched it up without giving credit to the original source…black people.
“What would America be like if we loved black people as much as we love black culture?” she asks.
