For those who prefer to stay in there is still plenty of Halloween fun to be had.  As a fan of campy, cheesy, weird, and creepy entertainment, let me share a couple of movies and books that just might make your indoor halloween celebration fun:

Dogtooth (2009 film)

This Greek film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos is about a husband and wife duo who terrorize their family by keeping them looked up and unaware of the real world. It star Christos Stergioglou, Michelle Valley, Aggeliki Papoulia, Mary Tsoni, and Christos Passalis.  It is a nightmare!

Sleepaway Camp (1983 film)

I almost don’t want to recommend that you watch this, but it is one of those things where you don’t want to be the only one who saw it and you need to either talk about it with people or it’s comforting to know you are not alone in the creepiness left after…This crazy campy cult classic, directed by Robert Hiltzick is about, you guessed teenagers getting killed at a camp sight.  Oh 1980′s the levels of horror you introduced us to.  However, I will only say this, there is a twisty twist twist at the end.

Scary Stories (1981-1991 children’s books)

Scary Stories is a collection of children’s books about horror and death written by Alvin Schwartz.  I know sounds crazily amazing right?  Needless to say some towns later banned these books from their school libraries but fortunately as a child of the 1980′s I was able to rent them from my school library with ease and enjoy them on the school bus before the ban. The stories themselves are not that frightening, they are kind of humorous in fact.  It was the artwork! Illustrator Stephen Gammell took us young’ins to new levels of fright that to this day have an effect on me.  Now The books are back on shelves, and I am so sad so say with new art work. BOO! So finding the original releases is not as easy.  So check out some of his beautiful and frightening images that got these children’s books banned:

From the story ‘Harold’ Possibly the story that scared me the most!

An alternate cover.

From ‘Wonderful Sausage’ You can imagine…

From ‘The Haunted House’

From ‘The Red Spot’ Yes those are spiders crawling out of her face…

From ‘Is Something Wrong?’ …I’d say so
