UTILITY DRESSINGUTILTY DRESSINGWebster dictionary defines utility as something useful or designed for use…. I think fashion is at its best when clothes are designed for a purpose. This trend with its washable everyday fabrics, large storage pockets and a loose casual fit are the very definition of clothes that I can maneuver the city in and look good doing it.

THE NEW TRENCH THE NEW TRENCH COATWhether cropped, sculptural, drapey, or printed the re-imagined trench is the coat of the season. Trench coats always add that polished complete look to any outfit but these take that silhouette and makes it fresh. With Preen and Tome playing with volume and shape,  Barbara Bui and DKNY adding softness and femininity, and Burberry exploring exploding prints, you definitely have a reason to cop all six.

WIDE LEG BERMUDASWIDE LEG BERMUDAAlthough I love and will continue the support the culotte trend, I am so happy to see that designers this season have embraced and modernized my favorite short length, the bermuda. In keeping with the utility trend, bermudas shorts, also called “the walking shorts”, are an easy wear. Not too short, not too long, not too tight, whether printed, color blocked, or mixed fabrications, they are the perfect city short.

BAGGY TROUSERS

BAGGY TROUSERS

Slung on the hips and pooled at the floor, this Tomboy staple has been given an easy and casual update. Marni and Margiela went for the tuxedo stripe detailing, Stella McCartney with a an interpretation of a men’s chino , and Maiyet a soft draped version. For me a baggy pant is a must, so this version will be a definite buy.
